Ari Ercole

Ari Ercole is a Consultant in Intensive Care Medicine in the NHS, a clinical informatician, a physicist and a data scientist. He has spent years researching, building and implementing artificial intelligence systems in healthcare, from model development through to deployment in live clinical services.

Trained first in condensed matter physics and then in medicine, he now works at the point where the two meet; getting computational methods to work in clinical practice and at scale. He is an Official Fellow of Magdalene College, University of Cambridge, and faculty at the Cambridge Centre for AI in Medicine. His research interests include developing applications of autonomous, agentic AI in healthcare, and he has published widely across intensive care medicine, data science and machine learning.

His writing examines why healthcare institutions behave as they do: how they absorb, deflect and occasionally weaponise technological change. He argues that the obstacles to better healthcare are rarely technical.
