Dr. Dámaso Tor Pisano is a Uruguayan physician, researcher, and author whose professional and intellectual work spans medicine, occupational health, environmental management, technology, organizational systems, and the study of power.
A graduate in Medicine from the University of the Republic of Uruguay, he also trained in meteorology and environmental management and developed his career in public institutions and large organizations. He served as an adviser on National Security matters during three Uruguayan presidencies, an experience that broadened his perspective on the relationship between institutions, technology and computing, information, and decision-making.
For decades, he worked on occupational health and the study of organizations. That experience forms the foundation of El aspecto humano en la empresa (The Human Aspect in the Enterprise), which examines more than a century of occupational health and argues for an understanding of the worker as a person who cannot be reduced to a productive function.
He is also the author of CANDIOTA. Lluvia ácida, La Ecología Médica en la Empresa, Sistemas Integrados de Gestión Ambiental-Salud y Seguridad, and SINARQUÍA. El poder global y la muerte de la libertad humana, a major work extending his inquiry into contemporary power, algorithms, artificial intelligence, and human freedom.
His writing brings together professional experience, historical research, and philosophical reflection around a central question: what happens to the human being when the systems created to serve humanity acquire the capacity to organize behavior, information, and ultimately our relationship with meaning?
