Ian Lustick

Dr. Ian Lustick holds the Bess W. Heyman Chair, Emeritus, in the Political Science Department of the University of Pennsylvania. He is a recipient of awards from the Carnegie Corporation, the National Science Foundation, the National Endowment for the Humanities, the United States Institute of Peace, and the Social Sciences Research Council. Before coming to Penn he taught for fifteen years at Dartmouth College and worked for one year in the Department of State. Specializing in comparative politics, social science methodology, and Arab-Israeli relations, he has authored or edited more than twenty books and scores of articles in leading academic and public policy journals. He has advised many administrations on intelligence matters, foreign policy, and national security. Professor Lustick is a past president of the Politics and History Section of the American Political Science Association, a founder and past President of the Association for Israel Studies, and a member of the Council on Foreign Relations. His books include Arabs in the Jewish State (1980); For the Land and the Lord (1988, 1994); Unsettled States, Disputed Lands: Britain and Ireland, France and Algeria, Israel and the West Bank-Gaza (1993); Trapped in the War on Terror (2006); Paradigm Lost: From Two-State Solution to One-State Reality (2019) and, most recently, with Eli Clifton, Israel’s Lobby: America in the Grip of a Foreign Power (2026).
