Mark is a lifetime spiritual seeker. He is a Harvard-trained biblical scholar ordained as an Elder in the United Methodist Church (UMC) who spent his professional life working as a board-certified chaplain and as a local UMC Pastor. Mark served as President of the Association of Professional Chaplains and as President of the Georgia Society for Healthcare Chaplains. Mark has provided workshops and lectures in the US and Canada and has published extensively in professional circles on spirituality, spiritual care, and professional chaplaincy. As founder of Death Cafe Atlanta, he has facilitated hundreds of death cafes. He is a commissioned UMC EarthKeeper.
Mark loves traveling and has done missionary work in Central America and hiked long distance trails in Europe and Israel. Now retired Mark lives in Atlanta with his wife Beth and near his twin children, Ellie and Joe. Mark spends his summers on the Appalachian Trail as a Circuit Chaplain with the Appalachian Trail Chaplaincy.
