James Hees

James Hees is a former journalist whose reporting has received national and international acclaim. Raised in a ragged part of a working-class community in British Columbia, he was a peculiar child with an intense imagination that often subverted reality leaving hm with temporary fantasy episodes. While his friends chose a perilous pursuits, he hesitated. That hesitation, he now believes, helped shape the course of his life. James drifted through a cast of troubled characters and dangerous jobs to eventually find his way into a career with the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation. His book, Born to be Mild, outlines episodes from reckless stunts to close calls with disaster that could have ended differently. It reflects on cognitive issues, moral luck, and the strange mathematics of who lives, who falls, and who is left to tell the story.
