Walker R. Abel is a Mississippi author and the writer of Heart & Bone, his debut novel.

A longtime resident of Oxford, Mississippi, Abel is drawn to stories about ordinary people confronted by extraordinary circumstances—and the choices they make when the past refuses to stay buried.

His writing is influenced by authors including Cormac McCarthy, Anthony Doerr, and Stephen King—writers whose sense of place, attention to character, and ability to find darkness and humanity in ordinary lives have long resonated with him. Abel's own fiction blends mystery and suspense with elements of literary fiction, with a particular interest in loss, family, redemption, and the secrets people carry with them.

Heart & Bone is set largely in the Appalachian Mountains and follows a decades-old mystery that forces two people to confront both the past and the choices that will shape their future.

Abel works in the broadband industry and lives in Mississippi with his family.
