Jean Leveque

Born in the shadow of the Swiss Alps to a French father and a Swiss mother, Jean Leveque entered the world in the early 1960s, in an alpine village. The son of a seasoned mountaineer and merchant father, and a botanist mother with a penchant for sketching wildflowers, his childhood took an unexpected turn when, at age six, the family relocated to South America due to his father’s trading business.

At nineteen, Jean went to the United States to study. He pursued a degree in economics, but indulged in literature more than any other subject. Nonetheless, a career in trading followed his graduation, until in his mid-life he began to write. He married and eventually returned to Europe, settling in a farm in France where The Beholder emerged from years of quiet reflection.

His writing is deeply influenced by the storytelling tradition of the sun-drenched highlands where he spent many years of his youth.

Jean maintains a very private life. He lives simply with his wife in their farm, where in addition to tending his sheep and orchard, he cultivates his love for reading and writing.
