Bill Westerfield was born and raised in New Jersey, where he began a successful career in the arts. Hell's Kitchen became home for many years before settling in Connecticut to fully enjoy life as a New York City commuter. He has spent most of his career at ABC TV, winning a Peabody, several Emmys, and BDAs for his illustrations, graphics, and animations for Eyewitness News, Wide World of Sports, Monday Night Football, Primetime Live, Turning Point, 20/20, World News Tonight, World News Now, and Good Morning America. Some highlights include creating Terry Gilliam-style animations for the incomparable ABC correspondent Robert Krulwich. Bill also had a short stint at NBC, working on the early morning news program Sunrise and the Today Show. While there, he won a BDA for a sports package he created.
Bill formed Tuxedo Blue LLC with Richard Chase Mears when they made the beloved children's Christmas book, Saint Nick and the Space Nicks. Richard wrote the lyrical prose. Bill illustrated, art directed, and produced the book itself. He also created a storybook app and an animated version of Space Nicks using his whimsically colorful artwork and having Robert Krulwich narrate the story.
Bill has explored Europe as an artist, creating watercolors and ink sketches from the west coast of Ireland to Liguria, Italy. He is now exercising his imagination and the stories he has created to the test. He has a playfully dark graphic novel inspired by Edgar Allen Poe in the works and is putting the finishing touches on his first full-length fantasy novel dedicated to his children.
