Michael Sfard

Michael Sfard is an Israeli human rights lawyer, an author and a publicist. Sfard specializes in international human rights law and the laws of war, and he advises major Israeli rights and protest organizations as well as international human rights and humanitarian NGOs. For the last three decades Sfard has represented numerous Palestinian communities and Israeli and Palestinian activists in Israeli courts. His opinion pieces frequently appear in the Israeli and international press, including Haaretz, The New York Times, and The Guardian. He is the author of several books including The Wall and the Gate: Israel, Palestine and the Legal Battle for Human Rights (2018), and the more recent Occupation from Within: How Israel’s Oppression of Palestinians Turned Inward (Hebrew edition 2025, English 2026). Sfard is a recipient of several awards including the Emille Grintzweig Human Rights Award.
