Sarah is an experienced Science and Physical Education teacher, with roles spanning from the Early Years through to Further Education. Alongside teaching, she has more than 16 years of experience as a sports coach and swimming teacher; helping children develop fundamental movement skills, swimming ability and confidence in being active.
Throughout her career, Sarah has been fascinated by the way children learn through curiosity, movement and play. In EYFS and KS1, she used the power of stories to turn PE lessons into imaginative adventures, helping children develop physical skills while becoming completely immersed in the experience. In Science, she has encouraged students to begin with a big question, wonder about what might be happening, and investigate their way towards an answer.
This is the inspiration for The Body Adventurers.
The series has been created to give young children the chance to discover science with their whole bodies. Through the adventures of Mia, Leo and Pip, children are encouraged to move, notice, ask questions and explore what is happening inside them, from a beating heart and breathing lungs to moving muscles and a busy brain.
For Sarah, learning about the body is about more than remembering facts. It is about helping children develop curiosity, physical confidence and an understanding of just how extraordinary their bodies are.
Her hope is that every Body Adventurers story leaves children wanting to move, explore and, most importantly, ask one more question: “Why?”
