Dan Buthler

Dan Buthler was born in Denmark in 1965 and raised in Sweden, where he built his career as a writer. After working in a variety of fields and earning a bachelor’s degree in marketing, he turned to storytelling in 2006.

Together with Dag Öhrlund, Buthler created one of the most infamous villains in contemporary Swedish fiction. Collaboration has remained an important part of his career: he has published novels with five different co-authors and written more than twenty books.

Exploring villains, heroes and anti-heroes caught up in events beyond their control is a recurring theme in his books. He has sold over three million copies in Sweden alone.

His most personal creation, however, is Gabriel Creuz.

Wrongfully convicted and stripped of his career, reputation and place in society, the Swedish nobleman emerges from prison determined to reclaim his life and dignity—only to find himself drawn into a world far more dangerous than the one he left behind.

The Gabriel Creuz thrillers were originally written in Swedish and are now being adapted for an international audience. The main series begins with Omitted, from the original Rök utan eld, which has sold over 100,000 copies.

Dan Buthler writes crime fiction for readers who don’t need someone to root for—he’s less interested in who is good than in what moves everyone.
