Eric Wolfinger

I’m a photographer, filmmaker, cookbook author, and former cook and bread baker. My story begins in San Francisco, where I worked as a line cook before becoming a bread baker at Tartine. While I was there, my mentor Chad Robertson had the idea that his apprentice (with no formal photography training) might bring a visual perspective to his bread book that no other photographer could. My photographs for Tartine Bread earned a James Beard Award nomination and launched an unexpected career.

Since then, I’ve photographed more than thirty cookbooks around the world and won a James Beard Award for American Sfoglino with chef Evan Funke.

My latest book, Eating for Life, brings me back to where I started, and where I am now: cooking for my family. I wrote it with my friend and integrative nutritionist Torie Borrelli Hall to make the book we wished we'd had when we started our own families—a beautiful cookbook that takes the food as seriously as the nutrition.
