Scott Phillips

Scott Phillips is an investor, writer, and commentator on business, markets, and money. He is the Chief Investment Officer of The Motley Fool Australia, where he has spent more than 15 years helping everyday Australians make the most of their money.

He has been a regular presence across television, radio, and print media, and hosts the Motley Fool Money podcast.

Scott doesn’t believe investing should be complicated. In fact, he thinks most of the difficulty comes not from the markets, but from our own behaviour: fear when prices fall, overconfidence when they rise, and the constant temptation to do something when doing nothing would be better.

He is a strong advocate for financial literacy and believes that investing should be accessible to everyone – not just professionals or insiders. Much of his work is aimed at demystifying markets, explaining key concepts in plain English, and helping people feel more confident about taking control of their financial future.

Through his writing, podcasting, and media appearances, Scott tries to cut through the noise and offer something simpler, calmer, and more useful: a way to think about money that actually works over time.

At the heart of Scott’s philosophy is a simple belief: investing isn’t about being the smartest person in the room. It’s about having the discipline to stick with a sensible plan, even when it feels uncomfortable.

He lives in the Southern Highlands of New South Wales with his family, and when he’s not thinking about investing, he’s probably planning his next road trip and spending as much time as possible away from screens, ideally somewhere outdoors.
