Peter Weiser is a Hungarian author living in Greece, where life with five cats provides a steady supply of stories, chaos, and inspiration.
His children's books began almost by accident. He and his partner started inventing little stories about their cats going to kindergarten, taking ballet classes, and having all kinds of small adventures. Since Peter had previously worked for a children's book publisher, spending years visiting schools and kindergartens and meeting young readers, turning those imaginary adventures into real books eventually felt like a natural next step.
As a child, Peter was curious, dreamy, and always trying to understand how things worked and why people felt the way they did. That curiosity still finds its way into his stories today. Finn probably shares the most of his personality, although there is a little of Rudo and Kinu in him too.
His books focus on the kinds of things that can feel very big when you are small: fear, friendship, jealousy, courage, curiosity, and all the complicated feelings in between. He likes stories that help children understand those moments without turning them into lessons or lectures.
Animals naturally became the heart of his stories. Kinu, for example, was inspired by one of his own cats, and cats remain very much part of the creative process, whether they intend to be or not.
Peter grew up surrounded by cartoons and children's books, and never really stopped loving either of them. These days, he hopes to create the kind of stories children want to hear again, parents do not mind reading again, and both can enjoy together.
