Daniel McGachey

Daniel McGachey is the author of the supernatural story collections They That Dwell in Dark Places (2009), and Sherlock Holmes: The Impossible Cases (2010), both originally published by Dark Regions Press, rereleased independently in 2026 in expanded editions. His second collection of ghost stories, By No Mortal Hand, was published by Sarob Press in 2018, and was also reissued with additional contents in 2026. His novel, Sherlock Holmes: The Devil’s Crown, was published in 2024 by Weird House Press, for whom he also edited and introduced the 2025 Weird House Classics edition, Number 13: Selected Ghost Stories by M.R. James.

His stories have appeared in editions of the Black Book of Horror, BHF Book of Horror Stories, and The MX Book of New Sherlock Holmes Stories, have featured in the Best British Horror and Best New Horror series, and have been adapted for the long-running Imagination Theatre radio series.

He has written comics since 1989, on such titles as The Dandy, Beano, Bunty, and Commando, and The Broons and Oor Wullie. He has adapted the hit sitcom Still Game into comic form, and has also written audio comedy, TV animation, and for magazines and newspapers. He has designed and illustrated several book covers, and was a regular contributor to the small press M.R. James fanzine Ghosts & Scholars.
