Benjamin Bunte

I spent my first career behind a double bass on concert stages and my second holding a baton in front of public school orchestras. Chronic pain came along for both. I hid it well enough that it took a collapse and a very patient woman to get me to say so out loud.

Today I am a clinical psychotherapist in Colorado and the founder of Bünte Behavioral Health, where I work with teens, young adults, couples, and neurodivergent clients. I am a Licensed Professional Counselor Candidate (LPCC) with an MA in Clinical Mental Health Counseling, and a doctoral student in Counselor Education and Clinical Supervision at Adams State University. I still live with a rare nerve condition. It taught me what no textbook covered.

The Pain of You is my first book. I wrote it for anyone who has answered "fine" and meant "help," and for the people standing next to them.

I speak and lead trainings on hidden pain and what changes when someone asks twice. I share my home with my wife, Michelle, and our five rescue animals, who remain unimpressed by all of the above.
