About the Author

Essayiste, Marcel Rioux fait son baccalaur�at au S�minaire de Rimouski puis �tudie la philosophie au Coll�ge th�ologique et philosophique des dominicains. Il obtient une ma�trise �s arts de l'Universit� de Montr�al et s'inscrit � l'Universit� de Paris o� il obtient une licence en sciences politiques et sociales.... Il se sp�cialise en �thologie au mus�e de l'Homme. De retour au Canada, il entre au service du gouvernement canadien comme chercheur au mus�e de l'Homme d'Ottawa de 1947 � 1959. Il enseigne ensuite � l'Universit� de Carleton de 1959 � 1961, puis � l'Universit� de Montr�al en 1961 o� il est professeur titulaire de sociologie. De 1966 � 1968, il pr�side la Commission royale d'enqu�te sur l'enseignement des arts au Qu�bec et collabore �galement aux travaux de la Commission royale sur le bilinguisme et le biculturalisme. Ses recherches portent essentiellement sur les Iroquois, les communaut�s rurales et urbaines et la jeunesse qu�b�coise. Marcel Rioux a re�u la M�daille Parizeau (ACFAS) en 1956, le Prix Montcalm (Paris) en 1970 et le Prix L�on-G�rin en 1978.
