No Binding. Condition: Good. Scarce Washingtoniana. 64 Maps to accompany the report of the Secretary of War (Chief Engineers). The report is stapled, softcover, government imprint. 62d Congress, 3d Session. House of Representatives Document No. 1400. 143 pages with one folding chart. Early ownership name on the front cover, but I can't read it. Accompanying the report are 64 maps (the complete set) showing the District of Columbia and environs, watersheds, etc. Each is numbered with a red rubberstamp on the top right corner. All are in very good condition; they seem never to have been opened. Some toning from age and paper is more brittle than it was 100 years ago, but I would not characterize it as fragile. Neatly folded, the maps make a stack fully 3 inches tall. The are about 6 x 9 inches but unfold to various sizes. We also have the remains of the original box that once housed it all, with printed cover and spine. It's in pieces, now. Same ownership name on the 'front' of the box. The complete title on the report is, "Letter from the Secretary of War transmitting, with a letter from the chief of engineers: report of examination on water supply of the District of Columbia and the availability of the water power at Great Falls, Potomac River, for supplying light and power for the use of the Unites States and the District of Columbia." An extremely scarce collection of DC maps. Please email with questions or to request photos. Also please note that if a photo has popped up beside this listing, it was put there by ABE as a 'stock photo' (whatever that is) and is likely not an accurate image of this actual item. [Washingtoniana].
