Addressed to "Thornton" (Thornton Leigh Hunt, 1810-73, son of writer Leigh Hunt, journalist and first editor of the influential "Daily Telegraph). Near fine. On letterhead bearing the blue-embossed "Privy Council Office" insignia, Helps thanks hid friend for "a very pleasant review in the Daily Telegraph Today -- at least very pleasing to the author. There was a good point taken in it -- showing an opinion of mine -- which will be valuable to me hereafter. It was in that part where the critic comments upon my chapters relating to local & imperial government. It is quite true what he says that I should have noticed the new local bodies. I will not forget this." Boldly penned. Helps is certainly referring to his latest book, the just-released "Thoughts upon Government.".
