Hardcover. Condition: Very Good. Dust Jacket Condition: Very Good. Book Club Edition. This is the Book-of-the-Month Club selection of "Hound-dog Man" , a novel by Fred Gipson that was published in 1949 by Harper & Brothers. The book's dust-jacket art is a remarkably nostalgic image; the artist's name in the plate is quite blurry…, but my best assumption is that the artist was R. John Hohngren, an esteemed American illustrator who did a number of works for Harper. The author of the book, Fred Gipson, was also the author of "Old Yeller", as well as a number of other well-received books. The story is immediate, true, and heart-tugging. Lots of old Texas dialect , which should tickle the kin-bones of a 'whole lotta folk'. Here is an excerpt from the dust-jacket blurb |> Here is a purely delightful experience - a book which takes every reader through a joyful adventure of youth, under circumstances which many of us have lived or dreamed about. It's an adventure that could be re-created only through the skill and plain good nature of a writer like Fred Gipson. . For Gipson has the Twain touch and something of Booth Tarkington and Marjorie Kinnan Rawlings - and something very special of his own. "Hound-dog Man" is that rare book by a 'new' author, which comes into a publishing house and is so universal in its appeal, so arresting in its qualities that the entire staff is immediately enthusiastic. <| TITLE : Hound-dog Man AUTHOR : Fred Gipson (1908 - 1973) IMPRINT : Harper & Brothers PLACE : New York DATE : (1949) DUST-JACKET ART : R. CONDITION -- This is a previously owned book that remains clean and attractive , with the following particulars noted : EXTERIOR -- Spine extremities are compressed and also displays, at the top extremity, a bit of fading; else the binding is clean, with strong color. The book's corner tips are only softly bumped. The text-block edges are clean. BINDING -- Solid INTERIOR -- The end-papers are toned; two leaves (with pp 101 - 104 have wee spots of loss to the edges (hardly worth noting) - else the interior is clean and free of marking.
