Hardcover. Condition: Very Good. Dust Jacket Condition: Very Good. 1st Edition. v+448 pages with maps, photographs and appendices. Royal octavo (9 1/2" x 6 1/4") bound in original publisher's beige clot with gilt lettering to spine in original publisher's pictorial jacket. First edition. Between 1892 and 1894, 258 monuments were… erected and photographed along the Mexican border between El Paso and the Pacific Ocean. Their original purpose was to serve as unalterable evidence in the boundary and rights-of-acess disputes that periodically arose between the United States and Mexico, but Professor Humphrey has found a contemporary application for this border survey project. By comparing the original photographs with his own repeat photographs of the monuments made approximately ninety years later, he has been able to determine the kinds of and amount of vegetation changes that have occurred over this relatively long period. Condition: Corners bumped. Jacket spine sunned, points rubbed else a very good to fine copy in like jacket.

Hardcover. Condition: VG. Dust Jacket Condition: VG. Dust jacket condition: VG. First edition. After an introduction on the medieval flowering of Arab civilization and its subsequent decline this book describes the Arab revival--the remarkable development of Arab affairs in the nineteenth and particularly the twentieth centuries…. Professor Gabrieli, a distinguished Professor at Rome University who has devoted many years to the study of Arabic literature and culture, brings a degree of sympathetic understanding to his subject very rarely encountered in works on this topic. Yet he is far from being an uncritical admirer of the Arabs. Indeed this book contains penetrating and vigorously expressed criticisms of recent events which are the more effective because of the spirit of tolerance and scholarly knowledge in which they are written. This provocative book is a lively key to the untidy jigsaw puzzle of insoluble rivalries which constitutes the modern Arab world.

Pp284 + 3pp ads. B/w illustrations by Tunnicliffe. Fine new unread paperback copy. An attractive new reprint of a trout fishing classic of the 194…0s. "As a pilot, the author flies from the remote highlands of Scotland to the quiet creeks of Cornwall, packing into the gun wells of a fighter, or the baggage space of a transport plane, his fishing-rod and a box of flies." "From [the sky] he can survey a river and note the good lies or discover little lochs which from the ground might never be located. He can find from his aerial viewpoint the route to such unknown waters, and when he returns to base he can set out on foot to reconnoitre. He has used a plane for shooting-up poachers seen to be fishing his water, though future trespassers upon his preserves will be thankful that the war is over." (Country Sportsman, April 1948).
