Soft cover. Condition: Very Good. 1st Edition. 23-53 pages with cited references. Quarto (11" x 8 1/4") bound in original publisher's stapled wrappers. current Anthropology Volume 37 Supplement complete issue. First edition. Applied anthropology in the United States emerged as a mixture of New Deal humanitarian liberalism and progressive industrial management ideology and in Britain as a humanitarian advisory function of colonial administration in Africa. In both countries applied practitioners were subjected to considerable ideological criticism during the 1960s and '70s. In the US Case, one manifestation of this critical approach was Sol Tax's populist-inspired action anthropology, which renounced the employment of practitioners by government or any large organization in favor of voluntary academic projects engaging in intensive intervention in the problems and needs of local communities. The approach did not prevail, but its ideas continue to simulate interest Meanwhile, applied anthropology was undergoing attenuation as cultural anthropology proliferated into "institutional anthropologies." the significance of these subfields (eg educational anthropology) was that they replicated the approach of sociology and economics: social scientific intervention as a normal part of the institutional activities of modern society. the basic problem in fitting anthropology for practical application was the preoccupation of the discipline with tribal (not contemporary urban-industrial) society. Condition: Light edge wear else very good.

Hardcover. Condition: Very Good. Dust Jacket Condition: Good. In vowelzed (with nikud) Hebrew. 282 + 5 Pages. 24 x 17 cm. Front blank has the PENCILED name, address and telephone number of Herman Steinmetz, surely a relative of the poet. The handwriting seems to be that of Professor Milton Arfa of blessed memory. Zvi Yair is the pen-name of the Hebrew poet and Chassidic scholar, Rabbi Zvi Meir Steinmetz (1915-2005). His father Shlomo Dov Steinmetz lived in the village of Brister[citation needed] in the Carpathian Mountains, on the border of Galicia, but Zvi Yair was born in Budapest (1915), where the family was living temporarily because of the upheavals caused by the First World War. In 1940 he married Devorah Isenberg and was hiding in Budapest during World War II thanks to a family friend, Eleonóra Sipos. After the war he lived in Vienna, Austria, till 1952 when he immigrated to New York. He began as a teacher in a Yeshiva University affiliated high school and then entered the real estate business as a mortgage broker and small investor. He published his first book, "Gesharim" [Bridges], (Herskovitz Miklós, Debrecen, Hungary) under the name Ben Shlomo [the son of Shlomo] in 1942 during World War II, and in 1951 he published in Vienna "Netiv" [Path]. He moved to New York and published a booklet in Israel in 1968 "Al Hachof" [On the Beach]. In 1973 he published "Merosh Zurim" (Eked, Tel Aviv), in 1981 "Miknaf Haaretz" (Eked, Tel Aviv) and in 1997 "Bechevion Hanefesh" (Heichal Menachem, Jerusalem).
