ALL UK PARCELS SENT TRACKED! ALL OVERSEAS PARCELS SENT AIRMAIL, TRACKED! (S/hand, Hardcover, 1973). (1967) 1973 1st English language edition. 4to (230 x 306mm). Pp64. Colour photographs, b/w illustrations, brief bibliography. Pictorial boards, issued without a dust-wrapper. Some browning and use but a good copy. Label to end-paper. This is an English translation and adaptation of an Italian book. Though published in America it is clearly aimed at the British angler, despite having a great deal of information on North American species and techniques. The Italian edition of 1967 was titled Attrezzatura per la Pesca Sportiva (which loosely translates as Equipment for Sport Fishing). The front cover of this English edition gives the title as Color Treasury of Fishing Tackle & Baits, whilst the title-page states Fishing Tackle & Baits: Fish, Tackle and Bait. No overall author or editor is given, however Frank Guttfield contributed the introduction and a large number of the pictures and presumably had a large part in the editing and adaptation of this edition. The first fifteen pages give a brief overview of anglers and angling in Britain and the USA. The rest of the book then consists of large, colour photographs with good, long and informative captions concerning species, techniques and other related matter, both in fresh and salt-water. A vaguely interesting if slightly oddly constructed book. .

Which has more murders, Cambridge or Oxford? (Did Harvard have a homicide, too?) Where did the term "red herrings" originate? Who drank more - Spade, Archer, or Marlowe? Exactly how many little grey cells did Poirot have? Who is the biggest snob - Peter Wimsey or Philo Vance? And finally, the great debate - who is better at disposing of the body, the English or the Americans? For mystery novices there is: the history of the mystery from Poe to the present; a subject guide to mysteries; the ten most overrated mystery stories of all time; how to behave at a mystery writer's autograph party; lists of the Pulitzer and Nobel Prize winners who wrote mysteries. For true crime buffs there are articles on every aspect of forensics, from dentistry to anthropology; confessions of hangmen and assistant DAs; tailing techniques of a private eye and memoirs of a house dick; visits to the barrister's wigmaker and to Scotland Yard's Black Museum; tours to mystery locations in New York and London. Over 150 original, entertaining, and illustrated articles by eminent mystery writers, teachers, psychiatrists, scientists, ex-spies, and fans in totally unrelated fields make MURDER INK the last word about murder fiction.
