The Chess Academy was published in August 1996 as an off shoot of the Internet Chess Academy and was intended to improve a player's skill by solving chess problems. In November 1993, at the age of 17, he was awarded the International Grandmaster title, making him one of the youngest Grandmasters at the time. In 1988 he took 2nd, behind Judit Polgár, in the World Under 12 Championship. Schwartzman won the 1996 U.S. Open at the age of 19 (youngest since Bobby Fischer) and was the winner of the Internet World Student Championship. Soft cover. Condition: Very Good. 1st Edition. 139 pages with diagrams. Octavo (9" x 6") bound in original publisher's pictorial wrappers. Translated by Ralph Lawrence. First American edition. The Queen's Indian Defense[1] (QID) is a chess opening defined by the moves: 1. d4 Nf6 2. c4 e6 3. Nf3 b6. The opening is a solid defense to the Queen's Pawn Game. 3.b6 increases Black's control over the central light squares e4 and d5 by preparing to fianchetto the queen's bishop, with the opening deriving its name from this maneuver. As in the other Indian defenses, Black attempts to control the center with pieces in hypermodern style, instead of occupying it with pawns in classical style. Condition: Lightly soiled, foxing to preliminaries, corners bumped, light edge wear else very good.

First edition. This monograph is more than a study limited to hooks for catching sturgeon. It is a study of the sturgeon fishing complex with special emphasis upon catching devices, and is an admirable example of the comparative method applied to an integral set of data in order to reach historical conclusion that are continually checked against old documentary and archaeological records. It combines the synchronic and diachronic approaches. Condition: Previous owner's name on front wrapper, heal corners bumped else a very good copy.
