Die Haupttriebfedern der Söldner der Lüfte waren das Streben nach materiellem Gewinn und ein medienwirksames Auffallen in der Öffentlichkeit. Es muß ein Unterschied in der Bewertung sein, ob es sich um Soldaten handelt die für die Verteidigung ihres Landes ihr Leben einsetzen und notfalls opfern oder um Glücksritter die den Krieg zur persönlichen Bereicherung nutzen oder gar als eine Art subtiles Freizeitvergnügen ansehen.
