Robert Lee Berran was an American illustrator best known for his polished, realistic paintings that graced mid-century book covers, magazines, and religious publications. Born in Mt. Vernon, NY, he served as a U.S. Army medic during WWII and later studied at the Art Students League under Frank Reilly and others. Berran's early career included poster and commercial art for 20th Century Fox before he became a prolific paperback illustrator for publishers such as Avon and Harlequin. His warm, idealized depictions of family, faith, and romance made him a natural choice for religious and inspirational commissions in the 1950s, including the Review and Herald editions of Your Bible and You. Robert Lee Berran was born on December 24, 1923, in Mount Vernon, New York, and died in 2018.
