Add to basketDie vorliegende Handschrift besteht aus 2 Teilen: der erste Teil ist in französischer und lateinischer Sprache abgefasst, wobei der lateinische Text weitgehend identisch ist mit dem posthum erst 1751 in Lyon im Druck erschienenen Werk `Medicamentorum constitutio, seu Formulae Caroli Barbeirac, in lucem editae ac auctae, curà & s…tudio Doctoris medici Monspessulani (Jacobi Farjon)`, das zwar Barbeyrac (1629 - 1699) als Autor nennt, aber von seinem Neffen Sydobre zusammengestellt worden sein soll (vergl. Wellcome II, S. 98). Behandelt werden in diesem ersten Teil `Des remedes externes` und `Des remedes moyen`, wobei einzelne Heilmittel, deren Wirkung und die Zusammensetzung vorgestellt werden - geordnet nach der Art ihrer Herstellung : Absud, Bouillon, Emulsion, Creme, Sirup, Milch, Tabletten, Puder etc. Ab Seite 97 werden die Therapien erläutert: Bäder, Umschläge, Tropfen, Pflaster, Salben, Riechkissen, Klistiere, Gurgeln etc. Charles de Barbeyrac erhielt seine medizinische Ausbildung zunächst in Aix en Provence, dann in Montpellier und wurde dort 1658 zum Professor ernannt. Die in der vorliegenden Handschrift in französischer Sprache abgefassten Kapitel sind eine nicht gedruckte französische Übersetzung dieses Textes. Das Schriftbild und einige Hinweise im Text (so heißt es etwa im Zusammenhang mit der Verwendung des Chinins, "il n`y a quenviron cinquante ans quelle est en usage" , S. 72) legen eine Datierung der Handschrift auf etwa 1690 nahe. Tatsächlich wurde die Chinarinde (pulvis cardinalis, cortex peruvianus, pulvis jesuiticus) um 1640 nach Europa gebracht und durch die Jesuiten bekannt gemacht. Andere Aussagen, wie die über die Herstellung von Schokolade, Tee und Kaffee (S. 76 ff.) weisen auf die gleiche Zeit der Abfassung hin. Dann wäre das Manuskript etwa 60 Jahre vor der Drucklegung des Textes entstanden - ob als Vorlesungsmitschrift oder Druckvorlage, müßte eine eingehendere Untersuchung klären. Der zweite Teil, mit der Beschreibung der gängigen Medizinalpflanzen, ist ausschließlich in Latein abgefasst und beginnt mit der Wermutpflanze (absynthium) um im Folgenden für zahlreiche weitere Pflanzen anzugeben, welche Teile als Heilmittel Verwendung finden können. - Von wenigen Tintenflecken abgesehen, nahezu fleckenfrei und kaum gebräunt. la Gewicht in Gramm: 1000 Lederband der Zeit, ohne Rückentitel, die reiche Rückenvergoldung etwas verblasst (Einband stellenweise berieben).
