A new edition of a classic work, published in commemoration of the 75th anniversary of Southern Methodist University (SMU) and the 50th anniversary of SMU Press. 4to(7.25 x 10.5 in.). Rust cloth with title and graphic stamped in gilt on the front. Stamped gilt titling on the spine. Clean condition, no scratches, stains, etc. Sharp corners. Previous owner's name in ink of front free page. Pages are clean. Jacket is tan with an arresting drawing of Fray Marcos by Jose' Cisneros ( he also contributes other drawings). Rear cover shows, in black, the same graphic on the cloth cover. The jacket is in a mylar sleeve. It has clean edges with only some light sun fading on the spine. Thiis is a nice edition with good commentary to enhance the narrative. There is a section of note and an index.

There are 21 illustrations, and 13 charts and maps including a beautiful foldout map of the Camino Real. The end papers are maps, and the dust jacket also has a map of the Camino Real. The book has minor shelf wear, and an inscription on the front free end paper from the previous owner. The dust jacket has some chips on the edges, and a small loss at the head of the spine panel.Price clipped.
