Taschenbuch. Condition: Neu. nach der Bestellung gedruckt Neuware - Printed after ordering - The writing style of a number of authors writing inEnglish was empirically investigated to detectstylistic patterns in relation to advancing age. Theaim was toidentify the type of stylistic markers among lexical, syntactical, phonemic, en…tropic,character-based, and content ones most able todiscriminate between early, middle, and late works of the selected authors, andthe best classification or predictionalgorithm most suited for this task. A pilotexamination of personal letters and poetry byChristina Georgina Rossetti and Edgar Allan Poesuggested that authors and genres varyinconsistently. Examination of selected variables onShakespeare s plays which emphasised their predictivepower, led to four experiments on personalcorrespondence and poetry from Edna St Vincent Millay andWilliam Butler Yeats. The methods used were stepwisemultiple linear regression, regression trees, ordinallogistic regression and artificialneural networks. Prediction was found influenced bymethod, authorship, and genre whereas classification was found sensitive to all factors. Given the currentexperiments, generalizable conclusions for the widerauthor population have been avoided.
