Ex library copy with marks and bound in "Legal buckram" by W.H. Smith & Son. Spine darkened; small white ink lib. number at base of spine. Old rubber stamp on verso of the title-page. Else a fine copy. Meant for the librarian and bookbinder. Gives a history of the art and eleven chapters of practical information including establishing home binderies, recipes and a section on paper. Includes a history of binding in England, Italy, France, Germany and the Netherlands. With eight plates containing 24 actual specimens of cloth and leather including pig, oasis morocco, seal, imperial morocco cloth, library buckram, legal buckram, buckram, linen finish, oxford cloth, art linen, art canvas, art vellum, Winvis brand, "skiver," duck, rexine and pluviusin. Contains 46 illustrations in addition to 8 plates with 24 mounted samples.
