"The Carus Mathematical Monographs: Expositions of mathematical subjects set forth in a manner comprehensible not only to teachers and students specializing in mathematics, but also to scientific workers in other fields. The monographs are intended for the wide circle of thoughtful people familiar with basic graduate or advanced undergraduate mathematics, encountered in the study of mathematics itself, or in the context of related disciplines, who wish to extend their knowledge without prolonged and critical study of the mathematical journals and treatises." - American Mathematical Society.

This book delves into the world of linear algebras, a branch of mathematics enriching our understanding of how numbers behave under certain operations. The author begins by introducing the fundamentals of linear algebras, exploring the concept of invariant functions and their significance in characterizing these algebras. Through original research, the author presents a groundbreaking method for constructing vector covariants directly from the algebra's defining constants, eliminating the need for pre-existing ordinary covariants or invariants. This novel approach leads to the identification of a complete system of invariants and covariants for a particular type of linear algebra, showcasing the power of the author's methodology. The book concludes by demonstrating the practical application of these invariants in characterizing the generic case of this specific algebra, highlighting their role in distinguishing and classifying different types of linear algebras. Overall, this book offers valuable insights into the study of linear algebras, providing both theoretical advancements and practical tools for researchers and mathematicians. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. Taschenbuch. Condition: Neu. Druck auf Anfrage Neuware - Printed after ordering - Matric algebra is a mathematical abstraction underlying many seemingly diverse theories. Thus bilinear and quadratic forms, linear associative algebra (hypercomplex systems), linear homogeneous trans formations and linear vector functions are various manifestations of matric algebra. Other branches of mathematics as number theory, differential and integral equations, continued fractions, projective geometry etc. make use of certain portions of this subject. Indeed, many of the fundamental properties of matrices were first discovered in the notation of a particular application, and not until much later re cognized in their generality. It was not possible within the scope of this book to give a completely detailed account of matric theory, nor is it intended to make it an authoritative history of the subject. It has been the desire of the writer to point out the various directions in which the theory leads so that the reader may in a general way see its extent. While some attempt has been made to unify certain parts of the theory, in general the material has been taken as it was found in the literature, the topics discussed in detail being those in which extensive research has taken place. For most of the important theorems a brief and elegant proof has sooner or later been found. It is hoped that most of these have been incorporated in the text, and that the reader will derive as much plea sure from reading them as did the writer.
