Condition: very good/near fine with good dust jacket. Large, heavy book, dimensions 10.5x8x2"; 412 pp. Black cloth boards with Morella pastedown on front; gilt printing on spine nearly worn off; a repaired 1" tear at top spine; 2 lower corners rubbed through. Text block in near fine condition; clean, tight, square, unmarked, pages lightly tanning. Black endpapers; top edge dyed black. Scarce dust jacket; in good condition with much rubbing to body; splitting and closed tears; repaired splitting to spine; one large 2" chunk missing at top spine; small 1/2" chunks at top right and lower right folded corners. (see photos.) Even so, the scary black and green illustrations on front and spine are still clear and convincing. Now protected in clear archival Brodart wrapper (removable). Packaged with care and shipped in a box to arrive in best condition. Tiptoe into a dimly lit world, down streets lined with madmen and their black deeds, through the cold twists of the catacombs, and into rooms where secrets dwell. Top edge gilt. 24 lavish full page black and white plates and further illustrations throughout the text by Harry Clarke. A lovely near fine copy, the binding square and firm, the cloth bright and fresh. The contents, with some offsetting to the front endpaper are otherwise clean throughout and without inscriptions or stamps. All plates remain in fine condition without marks or creases. Complete with the rubbed and nicked pictorial dustwrapper that has a couple of short closed tears and a tiny chip at the base of the spine. Seldom encountered in any condition dustwrapper, rarely so in this attractive, original condition. Clarke's exquisite illustrations, made up of elegant, slender lines and large areas of black space and painstakingly detailed textures lend the sense of darkness and uncanny horror to the book that Poe's tales warrant.
