Boldly signed by eleven cast members of the 1977 film adaptation on the title page and facing page, including: Roger Moore, Caroline Munro, Olga Bisera, Sue Vanner, Shane Rimmer, Eva Rueber-Staier, Marilyn Galsworthy, Valerie Leon,… Edward de Souza, Vernon Dobtcheff and director John Glen. Fine in a near fine dust jacket with light toning and rubbing. Written with Vivienne Michel. Jacket design by Richard Chopping. A unique example. In light of the novel's immense presence as a classic thriller, it's amusing to learn that it was at first poorly received. The novel was banned in several countries due to its heightened sexual writing. The reception was so bad that Fleming wrote to Michael Howard of the Jonathan Cape publishing company to explain why he wrote the book: "I had become increasingly surprised to find my thrillers, which were designed for an adult audience, being read in schools, and that young people were making a hero out of James Bond . So it crossed my mind to write a cautionary tale about Bond, to put the record straight in the minds particularly of younger readers . the experiment has obviously gone very much awry" (Chancellor 2005). Upon Fleming's request, no reprints were made until after his death in 1964. It was the basis for the tenth film in the James Bond series, starring Roger Moore, Barbara Bach and Curt Jürgens. It was directed by Lewis Gilbert and the screenplay was written by Christopher Wood and Richard Maibaum.

Association copy, inscr…ibed on the verso of the half-title "Happy memories. Guy Hamilton" and on the title page, "Dear Leslie - Happy Memories of my 1st! Roger Moore." Leslie Bricusse has neatly written in black ink and underlined in red ink "Guy Hamilton (Director)" and "Roger Moore 007." The 1973 film Live and Let Die is a spy thriller and the eighth film in the James Bond series produced by Eon Productions. It marked the debut of Roger Moore as the MI6 agent James Bond. Directed by Guy Hamilton and produced by Albert R. Broccoli and Harry Saltzman, the film's script was written by Tom Mankiewicz. Although the producers approached Sean Connery to return after Diamonds Are Forever, he declined, leading to a search for a new Bond lead, which resulted in Moore being cast. Sir Roger Moore was an English actor renowned for his role as the fictional secret agent James Bond. He was the third actor to portray Bond in the film series, starring in seven feature films from 1973 to 1985. Moore's portrayal of Bond in Live and Let Die to A View to a Kill is notable for being the most appearances of any actor in the Eon-produced entries of the series. The recipient, Leslie Bricusse OBE was a celebrated British composer, lyricist, and playwright known for his work on theatre musicals and film theme music. Some of his most notable contributions include writing the music and lyrics for films such as Doctor Dolittle, Goodbye, Mr. Chips, Scrooge, Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory, and Tom and Jerry: The Movie. He also co-wrote the iconic James Bond film songs Goldfinger and You Only Live Twice. Additionally, Bricusse co-wrote "Can You Read My Mind? (Love Theme from Superman)" with John Williams for Superman and "Le Jazz Hot!" with Henry Mancini for Victor/Victoria. Mervyn Ian Guy Hamilton was an English film director. He directed 22 films from the 1950s to the 1980s, including four James Bond films. Gibert A2a. In fine condition. An exceptional example, most rare and desirable signed and with noted provenance. "Fleming accomplished an extraordinary amount in the history of the thriller. Almost single-handedly, he revived popular interest in the spy novel, spawning legions of imitations, parodies, and critical and fictional reactions Through the immense success of the filmed versions of his books, his character James Bond became the best known fictional personality of his time and Fleming the most famous writer of thrillers since Sir Arthur Conan Doyle" (Reilly, 571). The inspiration for these changes came from Fleming's experiences of travel in the U.S. and his knowledge of Jamaica itself, where Live and Let Die was written at Fleming's 'Goldeneye' estate. The novel's innovations were positively noted by The Sunday Times when they wrote "[h]ow wincingly well Mr. Fleming writes." And the Times thought Live and Let Die "is an ingenious affair, full of recondite knowledge and horrific spills and thrills - of slightly sadistic excitements also - though without the simple and bold design of its predecessor.".
