First Edition
Hardcover. 1853 Presumed first edition (SD, NAP) . Hardcover, 4 1/4x6 1/2 inches, black leather, 496 pp, illustrated with 5 f/o MAPS by Oliver & Boyd, Edinburgh, plus 1 tipped in map. Text in Welsh language (maps in English) . Good. Leather loose on spine, with a c. 1 1/2x1 3/4 inch piece chipped off foot, and a c. 1x1 inch piece chipped off head, leather scuffed, with cardboard exposed at corners and at several points along edges of boards. Internally, shaken, prev owner's contemporary inscptn on fep and top edge of first page of text, some numbers and letters on fep, tan stain, c.1inch deep, along edges of some leaves, paper starting to age yellow, 4 or 5 dog ears, o/w tight clean and unmarked. Maps are age tanned, with a 1 or 2 small tears and folds, first map has some foxing on reverse side, but clean and relatively crisp overall. Unusual and scarce. Geography; Wales.
