About the book >.>.> THE object of this book is to provide the reader with a handy guide to all the birds known to occur in the Malay Peninsula, Singapore, Penang, and Peninsular Thailand and, at the same time, to give him some knowledge of the bird life of Sumatra, Borneo, and Java. The book is written in popular language, and technical terms have been avoided as far as possible, particularly in the descriptions. It is, however, scientifically arranged, and the birds and bird families are treated in their proper systematic order, the author's aim being a book of value both to the beginner, interested in the birds he sees around him, and to the serious ornithologist. The book is divided into two parts and there are several appendices. Part 1 is of an introductory nature and is concerned with Malayan birds as seen in the field. Chapter I deals with the more everyday aspects of Malayan bird life the birds one sees in the towns and gardens, the more noticeable birds of the higher hill stations, and those of particular interest to the spo.
