Hard Cover. Condition: Fair. No Jacket. Chief Inspector Ash investigates the murder of a wealthy man in a manner forecast in the plot of a book by his heir, an author of detective novels. Lightly bumped and rubbed with a damp stain to the lower and fore edge of the boards and text. Spine cocked, hinges cracked. Reading copy.

Original Cloth. Condition: Very Good. Dust Jacket Condition: Good. 2nd Edition. Second UK edition. Originally published by Hutchinson in 1951. There is only slight surface and edge wear to the boards. Browning and some spotting to the page edges and the pages are browned but otherwise unmarked. The jacket has chipping with a little loss at the top of the spine which is browned with a little spotting. There are half inch closed tears to the top right and bottom left corners of the front panel and some chipping to the corners and discolouration to the rear panel.

Boards rubbed at edges with shallow fray at spine ends and boards peeking through fray at corner tips. Cloth fading at spine and to a thin swath along the edges of the upper board. A split to the inner hinge at front appears to have been repaired by a prior bookseller with placement of archival linen mending tape in the joing between the half-title and pastedown and half-title and title pages. Front free endpage appears to be missing. Front and rear most few leaves foxed; light scattered soiling to pages from repeated readings. Front number of signatures jutting slightly from the front edge of the boards. Glue residue to rear pastedown suggests jacket glue down consisten with a rental library copy. Shabby but complete in the text. Serviceable filler copy of this scarce Grierson mystery. Fair to good only.

Clode, Inc. in 1926 and appears to be a First Edition though it's not specifically stated as such. It's NOT an ex-library copy (though it does have the name of a previous owner written in ink on the front loose end page) and is in good + condition. It's a hard cover book with no dust jacket. The book is 5 1/8" by 7 1/2", and has 317 pages. Thank you!

Presumed first edition. 252pp. Francis D Grierson (1888-1972) was an Irish-born soldier, lawyer, journalist and author, in active service during World War One. His book were published in both the UK and the USA and he is best known for detective fiction, much of it assembled in series including the Inspector Slim and Professor Wells sequence and the successor Chief Inspector George Muir and Superintendent Andrew Ash sequences. This is one of hin non-series crime mysteries, featuring Sir Andrew Greshame of Scotland Yard. The book is bound in the original green boards with black titling on the spine and front board. The case of the book is in good to very good condition with shelf wear and light soiling on the boards. The spine is damaged with bumping to the spine ends with some damage at the top of the spine and splitting down parts of the front and rear spine edges. A previous owner has carried out a home repair by glueing parts of the spine directly onto the text block. The contents are tight and clean apart rrom a few light marks and some foxing to the first few pages, including some light foxing on the title-page. There are no blank free endpapers, apparently as issued, and there is partiall splitting down down the spine edge between the rear fixed endpaper and last page. There is some blue scribbling on the half-title page (acting as the front free endpaper) but no inscription.
