Gustave Amweg, historien local actif au début du XXe siècle, situe son travail dans le contexte d'une région marquée par son passé princier-évêché et son rôle frontalier entre France et Suisse. L'ouvrage éclaire ainsi le développement de l'imprimerie comme vecteur de diffusion des idées dans un espace peripheral mais dynamique de l'Europe moderne. Papier légèrement bruni et quelques petites rousseurs éparses sans gravité.
