Hardback. 1st thus. Small Quarto Size. Very Good condition in Very Good Dustjacket. DJ protected in our clear archival purpose-made plastic sleeve. A nice copy. Six (6) full page Colour illustrations by the author. Originally published by Little Brown & Co in Boston, USA in 1924. This is the first Australian edition. 144 pages. New Zealand born Gaze [1885-1962] illustrated a number of children's fantasy books in the first quarter of the 20th Century. He lived in Australia, England and America. His work has been increasingly recognised as he created an alternate [to the illustrators of the time] version of fairyland, being influenced by a fashion for grotesquerie but with limpid colours and delightful details which will still enchant children. In this delightful book one can meet an Inklewunk, a talking match, a grumbling picnic basket and a snoring billycan. Robust, professional packaging and tracking provided for all parcels.
