Dust Jacket is also worn on the top of the spine. Illustrated by occasional black & white drawings. The country of Ceylon, changed as of 1972, is now known as Sri Lanka, Located off the coast of India, Sri Lanka is filled with a great variety of exotic species of animal and plant life. These species were what Heinz Randow went to Sri Lanka to study. A member of the German Navy during World War I, he devoted himself to the natural sciences after the war. While at Sri Lanka, he discovered many new species and shipped them to zoos across Europe. Later in life, he returned to Germany as the director of the Hanover zoological gardens. In this book, Randow describes his expeditions to Sri Lanka hunting for flora and fauna to send to zoos in Europe. Size: 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall. Hardcover.
