In 1957, eight enthusiastic and experienced archaelogical field workers, all living within an area centred on St. Albans that roughly embraces the territory occupied by the Catuvellauni just prior to the Roman invasion, decided to pool together their knowledge and resources, and cooperate on a joint programme of exploration. This book is the result of their discoveries, which were based on previous knowledge of the major Roman routes running through the area. Their method followed the techniques described in I.D. Margary's 'Roman Roads in Britain', and Mr. Margary himself gave them frequent advise and help, visiting many of the routes they discovered and examining much evidence on the ground. In all 850 miles of Roman road are described in the book.…
