I have been to Ethiopia on numerous occasions and indeed visited the site of the Church pictured on the cover of this book. This is more about Ethiopia than about me as the country has suffered long and hard (and may be heading into another period of drought and starvation) in recent decades despite its rich culture and history. Please find then a nice copy of the relatively rare book titled: Lalibela-the Monolithic Churches of Ethiopia by Irmgard Bidder. This large hard cover book (9 x 12 ĵ inches, 137 pages including those of the supplemental appendix) was published by M. DuMont Schauberg of Cologne, Germany dated 1958. The book is bound in bright red cloth boards with gilt decorations on the cover and a gilt title panel on the spine; it is protected by a glossy, pictorial dust jacket, itself encase in a mylar sheath. The book is very well illustrated with b&w and color plates mostly from photos by the Author and some of the color photos tipped-in. Condition: This book is in very good condition. The dust jacket shows some very minor edge wear now hopefully arrested with the application of the mylar sheath. The hard covers are generally clean and bright and so too their gilt decorations although the top front corner has been bumped and chipped. Inside there is a note from a former owner about where this book came from. Otherwise, the interior pages and many plates are clean and bright throughout without any real toning or foxing (some faint foxing between the back cover and the appended supplement). Both hinges are intact, and the binding is tight and sound. This book is not ex-library or a remainder. International Edition.
