This poem holds a unity throughout, yet is sufficiently varied in theme and metre to make good and easy reading. Written in 1942, it is an offering to the old land born out of a rich memory and experience, and doubtless prompted by the poignancy of war. James Edward Ward was the rector of St. Stephen's Church in Toronto. He dedicated this book, with a poem, to Winston Churchill.
