Hardcover. Condition: Near Fine. Dust Jacket Condition: Very Good. 1st Edition. The Museum of Primitive Art was founded by Nelson Rockefeller in 1954 who donated his own collection of Tribal art. This volume was the first monograph to be published on this primitive art style. Lake Sentani is on the North coast of of former Dutch (Papua) New Guinea near Hollandia (Jayapura). The Museum closed in 1976 and the collection was transferred to the Metropolitan Museum of Art. The cream cloth covered boards are clean and unmaked. Both the short title page and the last page of the text block have a light splotchy foxing due to contact to both porous free end papers which, presumably, became slighty damp from periodic humidity thus promoting the foxing on the glossy pages in contact with them. This foxing is oderless, quite light and not obtrusive. The DJ has shelfwear with a few small short tears and 3 small scattered chips. Now enclosed in a removable Mylar protective sleeve. This is a rather scarce monograph, all in B&W. Former owner's name printed in ink to the top right corner of the front free end paper.

Filtering, ingestion, assimilation respiration, growth and reproduction of the blue mussel Mytilus edulis were successfully described in terms of a dynamic energy budget (DEB) model, which previously had been applied successfully to a variety of other species. The relation between oxygen consumption rate and ingestion rate could be derived from elementary model assumptions. Parameters of the DEB model, estimated for laboratory situations, were applied to field data. The varying growth rates in the field could be described by taking account of changes in food density and quality, and temperature, on the basis of the Arrhenius relation. A methodology is given to reconstruct ambient food densities from observed growth curves. This can be used to assess the nutritive value of measured substances such as POM or chlorophyll. The concept Scope For Growth is discussed and interpreted in terms of the DEB model. The energy conductance is found to be 0.36 mm d?1 at 20°C, which is close to the mean of many species: 0.43 mm d?1. 15 pp., 16 figs, gr. 8.
