Paper. Condition: Good. No Jacket. Kreefft, Otto (illustrator). Early Proof. A unique document. This is a 28 page A4 draft of the first English translation of this illustrated book, written and illustrated by a Dutch survivor of the Burma Railway. It was sent to John Webb, a musician friend of the author, who helped with the final English language edition. The contents are only text - a first draft of an English translation by a Dutchwoman, who lived in Australia for many years. There is a letter in pencil from Kreefft clipped in, which explains the background and asks Webb for his help in finalising the English version. Many pencilled suggestions throughout, including several versions of the title! Pages typed on one side only, and held together by brass paper clips. No illustrations, apart from the cover sheet, which is in colour, but has had water staining effects. A fascinating stage in the production of the English language version. Signed by Author(s).
