Seller: Rareeclectic, Pound ridge, NY, U.S.A.
Hardcover. Condition: Very Good. A rare hardcover. Part of the 'Addison-Wesley Series in the Principles of Chemistry.' This book was previously owned by Professor Paul Haake. He signed his name off the top edge of the blank front end paper. He was a professor of molecular biology and biochemistry at Wesleyan University in Middletown, Connecticut. He completed his A.B. and Ph.D. (Chemistry) at Harvard University. During his 25 years as a full-time teacher and scholar at Wesleyan, he contributed to the development of the college's Ph.D. program in chemistry and the formulation of the Molecular Biology and Biochemistry Department. His research resulted in publication of some one hundred scholarly articles and books. The book is in very nice condition. You can see the covers in the photos. They are clean. There is a little bit of color loss at the spine ends and in a few other places. The gilt lettering on the spine is nicely bright. The cover edges are in solid shape, a tiny bit of color loss in a few places. The cover corners have superficial rubbing. The page edges look perfectly clean. The book is very solidly bound from cover to cover with nicely tight pages throughout and nicely tight covers as well. The pages are exceptionally clean. Scrolling through, I haven't found any instances of soiling. They are also nicely bright, not toned. I'm not seeing any creasing anywhere. There are no markings. The professor penciled on four pages. The word 'explosion' at the margin of one, the word 'flame' at the margin of another (along with an underlining of 'isothermal' and 'adiabatic', what appears to be the name of a fellow scientist at the margin of another, and a reference to a chemistry edition on another. The first three pencilings are in red pencil. I didn't see any other writing. There is one small attachment that came off. You can see the glue stain under where it had been pasted, off the bottom edge of the rear inside cover. The attachment is intact and in excellent condition. It is a little folder-like thingamajig that you could place something into. His stamped name is on the outside. Easier to just take a photo. See photo. There are no other attachments. The book contains a great many charts and equations. They are all in excellent condition.
