Pretty frontispiece and title illustration, delightful full page engraving to every page, mostly children at play, some with dolls and toys, some with pets, 1 shows children with a fairy. A few are of animals (kingfisher, hippopotamus, cats or kittens). Printed on quality paper, each has a 4 line verse. Various artists including Kate Greenaway (1 - our image 1), M. Ellen Edwards, Harrison Weir, John Lawson, Otto Specter, and Griset. Spine faded and slightly worn, expertly strengthened, corners slightly rubbed, coloured picture pasted to front endpaper, 2 bookplates, slight margin soiling, pale margin foxing throughout, a few illustrations very faintly browned, 2 very slightly damaged through adhesion. A good plus copy of an uncommon charming item. Schuster (page 73, No. 117) dated this book approximately 1878 from an inscription in another copy.
