Copy of Merrill Sosman, with his pencil signature "M. C. Sosman, Brigham Hosp." on front flyleaf. ABOUT SOSMAN: "In 1922 Merrill Sosman joined the staff at the Peter Bent Brigham Hospital. He would later serve as the Chief of Radiology at that institution for 34 years. Sosman had the tremendous good fortune of working with Cushing when the master was at the peak of his career. Sosman, in turn, imparted a stimulus and encouragement for the investigation and publication of the tremendous wealth of clinical cases that were being seen at the Brigham at the time. In the 10 years of their association, until Cushing's retirement, 31 papers on the subject of neuroradiology were produced. . . . The dissemination of this scientific information did a great deal to advance the identity of neuroradiology. When The Harvey Cushing Society was founded in 1931, Sosman was one of only two radiologists admitted as founding members. . ." (Dean J. Gobo, in Greenblatt (ed.), A History of Neurosurgery, pp. 227-28).

Book
Hardcover. Condition: Used - Very Good. Silversmiths to the Nation: Thomas Fletcher and Sidney Gardiner, 1808-1842 presents the first in-depth study of the celebrated silversmiths and their magnificent work. The firm these men established in Boston (1808-11) and Philadelphia (1811-42) revolutionised the significance of silver in America as a medium of public appreciation and introduced a new era in silver production. The grand presentation pieces Fletcher &Gardiner created for the heroes of the War of 1812 are without equal. These objects have no American precedent in their scale, patriotic imagery, and fabrication. The everyday household and personal silver the firm produced in abundance as well - from teapots to jewellery - spoke to the needs of an upwardly mobile class in the early 1800s. Indeed, the Fletcher &Gardiner manufactory was the Tiffany of its day. Some 100 works from the firm have been located and are included in this lavishly illustrated volume. Many are from private collections and are published for the first time. A Presents the first in-depth study of two celebrated silversmiths and their magnificant work. Slight scratching/scuffing on dust jacket. Book has minor shelf wear.
