Slight cracking to gutters causing binding to be loose, however pages remain attached. Pages and plates have light tanning and foxing throughout. Boards have light shelf-wear with corner bumping. Slight crushing to spine ends. Unclipped jacket has light edgewear with tears and creasing. Small area of loss to bottom of spine. Light tanning to spine and edges. Stickers to front panel.

Contents clean, edges toned, some offset to endpapers, jacket lightly used. Near fine. Colonel Richard Henry Meinertzhagen, CBE, DSO (1878-1967). Soldier, intelligence officer and ornithologist. Meinertzhagen fought with Allenby in The Great War and attended the Peace Conference with T. E. Lawrence. He was awarded the Distinguished Service Order in February 1916 and his writing was greatly admired by the thriller writer Ian Fleming. This copy is from the comprehensive Fleming archive assembled by bibliographer Jon Gilbert, with accompanying provenance (bookplate and pencilled signature). Gilbert, p.631-2.
