Boards. Condition: Very Good +. Dust Jacket Condition: Near Fine. A handsome copy of the scarce hardcover edition, in a very sharp dustjacket. Tight and VG+ (ink inscription at the front free endpaper) in a crisp, price-clipped, Near Fine dustjacket, with very light chipping to the spine ends. Although the copyright page suggests this is the 12th printing, it's difficult to say how many (or rather how few) hardcover copies were issued. Suffice to say the spiralbound edition -- in itself something of a collectible-- is infinitely more common than the hardback edition, which this bookseller for one has never seen before.

Production files for the book. The production files are in fine condition. The production files are in fine condition The design and production of White Trash Cooking was entrusted to Jonathan Greene, an award-winning designer, publisher and poet, and a long-time friend of Jonathan Williams. It should be noted that the production files are pre-digital, the photographs actual photographs. The files include the following: a photocopied typescript of the text with annotations by the author; a set of corrected proofs for the book sent by Ernie Mickler to JG, with a letter from EM to JG written in red ink on the proof sheets; paste- ups for the cover texts for the book, including JW's preface; a set of copy-edited sheets for the table of contents; a dummy set of original pasted-in photographs for the photographic section of the book, consisting of 31 images; a set of 37 photographs by EM with notations; negatives for all facets of the covers for the book; prospectus for the book, a 6-page folding leaflet, with text by JW, accompanied by the corrected typescript for his text. White Trash Cooking was published as Jargon 101 by the Jargon Society in 1986 and quickly became a bestseller. The 25th Anniversary Edition's cover states that â650,000 copies sold.' However, the Jargon Society was incapable of meeting the demand, and the rights to the book were soon sold to Ten Speed Press in Berkeley, CA, which also published a sequel entitled Sinkin Spells, Hot Flashes, Fits and Cravens. With Color Photographs by the Author in 1988, which was also designed by Jonathan Greene. To add insult to injury, or as the saying goes: "no good deed goes unpunished", EM and the Jargon Society were sued by the subject of the photograph that graces the front cover who claimed that she had never given EM permission to use the image. Ernie Mickler died of complications of AIDS in 1988. The present collection includes the only complete set of the original photographs for the book.

Spiral bound wraps. Condition: Fine. First edition thus. 158p quarto, illutrated. A fine copy in illustrated spiral bound wraps. Originally published by Jonathan Williams of the Jargon Society, Williams could not keep up with the demand for the book so he worked an arrangement with Phil Wood founder of Ten Speed Press. This copy is inscribed by Phil Wood to 'For Tome and Jonathan what a wonderful lunch and time a settin' round the fire! Phil Wood" Laid in is a 6 page stapled itinerary for Mickler's White Trash Cooking Southern Safari, August 1986 sponsored by the Jargon Society and including a highlighted stop at The Captain's Bookshelf in Asheville August 19. Five photographs laid in -two of Mickler dressed in drag both with notes on the back reading in Mickler's hand "I pick this one for you since I look like Jacqueline Suzanne. It might be good for the jacket cover - just kidding. This was Halloween" And the second in another hnd "Ernie Mickler being really trashy at Mardi Gras 1984. But as always spreading that wondeful energy to all" There are two copies of the same photo of Mickler with Jonathan Williams and an unknown woman, and a single Polaroid shot of two unidentified individuals posing inside a large scale mock-up of the Book's cover.
