En su infancia leyó con avidez las obras de Julio Verne y de Emilio Salgari. La influen…cia de estos dos autores sobre Motta tendrá como resultado que su obra futura se encuentre a medio camino de la de ambos. Las novelas de Motta destilan el gusto por la anticipación, tan querido de Verne, con la acción rápida de Salgari. Al mismo tiempo, algunas de ellas se encuadran en escenarios propios de la producción salgariana (Malasia, África, el Far-West americano). Su admiración por Salgari, y probablemente de igual manera un cierto interés comercial, le llevará a firmar algunas de sus novelas en una supuesta colaboración con él, ya que pretendía estar siguiendo tramas planteadas previamente por su maestro.
